News from Pakistan - HGS 2277 from Peshawar on the move!
Five weeks to go to start our tour to Pakistan!
The Pakistan Railways and our agency are working hard to fulfil our very last wishes. It's not so easy to enforce decisions in the bureaucracy that exists in the region - or to find the right decision-maker. But thanks to experience in organising charter trains in Pakistan since 1992 and the know-how of our local agency, we have been able to realise almost anything so far.
We will only know shortly before arrival whether things will really turn out the way we expect them to, because Pakistan Railways will only issue the internal service instructions for our special trains a few days before the first locomotive operation.
After all, they are taking care of the HGS steam locomotives for our tour, and we will even have another HGS available as a back-up locomotive. This locomotive (HGS 2264) has however not yet been overhauled at the Moghalpura repair shop, so that we rather should not hope for a need to use it!
Jan Methling visited Pakistan on our tour in 2005 and was able to photograph HGS 2277 (which we will also see in November) at Nowshera station. This locomotive is normally based at Peshawar and has basically nothing to do... time to get it in action and be part of our tour!
We still have exactly 3 rooms available in the hotel in Islamabad, so if you want to go with us at short notice, you are welcome to register!
