It's hard to believe it, but the Inselbahn is always fully booked … either by the intensive timetable of the regular trains connecting the jetty with the city, or by special trains. And at the weekend nothing works at all …

Therefore we are very glad that we are allowed to be on the train on 2 days and offer you a special train program with photo stops and sham journeys not yet seen in this form.

Our current program includes 3 special trips between the Stadtbahnhof and Mole, each with different sets and tractions: the steam locomotive "Borkum", a B coupler built by O&K in 1940, the diesel locomotive "Leer" (built by DWK in 1934 as a B-dm type), and the Wismar rail bus T1, which was delivered directly to the Borkumer Kleinbahn in 1940, but was no longer used there after the war. At first it was delivered to Viernheim, then to the DEV in Bruchhausen - but all efforts to change the gauge to meter gauge failed and so the Borkumer Kleinbahn seized the opportunity almost 60 years after the T1 was put into service to bring it back to the island as an original vehicle. 

We will drive pure passenger trains and a mixed train.

At night we drive with the steam locomotive and a 3 car train again to the jetty and will make night shots there!

Also today the regular traffic determines our special train timetable: early in the morning before the first planned trains we go with the steam locomotive on the line to the mole, afterwards we have to let the planned traffic pass, and go in the next train break again on the line, this time with a historical diesel locomotive. In the afternoon the T1 (built 1940) is our photo object on the way from the mole to the city!

Of course we can photograph the regular traffic during our train breaks, also the classical pictures of the lighthouse in the center of the city are possible! Also in the plan is a visit of the workshop of the island railway.

Also today we visit the mole at night: this time with the T1 …

You can book the combined ticket of the ferry (mainland-Mole Borkum-Festland) and the island railway (Mole-Stadt-Mole) as well as the overnight stay (with breakfast) on Borkum with us. We have reserved a limited number of rooms in the 4-star hotel "Nordsee" (not far from the train station and the beach) and would be happy to accommodate you in the "group hotel". 

We would also like to invite all non-photographing partners and friends to come to the island of Borkum! Borkum is always worth a visit and there is a lot to see. Participation in the special train program is free for accompanying partners! The number of seats for "fellow travellers" is limited, so we recommend booking early.

We run this trip with a minimum of 15 participants and a maximum of 35 participants. The closing date for bookings is 31 January 2020 !

Information:

The island of Borkum is a popular destination all year round, not only for railway enthusiasts. Therefore, accommodation is scarce and booked months in advance. We have reserved a room contingent for 25 people in the Nordsee-Hotel, please book the room option in time to avoid disappointment!

If you are interested in additional days on the island, please contact us and we will talk to the hotel to reserve additional nights there.

The island of Borkum can be reached by ferry or plane. We offer you a combined ticket for the return trip by ferry from the mainland to the jetty in Borkum, as well as the connection to the island railway. Also for this our contingent is limited!

The Inselbahn earns its money among other things with outdoor advertising on its passenger cars. We have discussed for a long time with the technical direction of the railway whether we can attach a foil sticker over the advertisement for the duration of our special trips. Since the walls of the cars are made of galvanized sheet steel, on which the primer and top coat of paint adhere relatively poorly, we would have had to finance a new coat of paint for 6 passenger cars after the films have been removed... Therefore we will build our passenger trains in such a way that we drive only with cars that have the smallest "advertising space" and also cleverly camouflage these cars in the train network.
